Harmony Day

Harmony Day is a day to celebrate a commitment to harmony and mutual respect in a culturally diverse nation. It is an annual event held across Australia on 21 March. The event's major objectives are focused on reducing racial prejudice and intolerance in Australia.

The Living in Harmony program was first established in 1998 by Immigration and Multicultural Affairs (DIMA) was established in 1998. Celebration of Harmony Day began in 1999. At first it was celebrated among the primary-school aged children and community groups. Now it has expanded its activities to wider community groups.The Orange Ribbon is the symbol of this event. Wearing of these ribbon is a part of celebrating this day.
